Earthquake in Delhi: Strong quake measuring 6.6 jolts national capital, tremors felt as far as J&K


Delhi Earthquake News: Residents moved out of their homes as tremors struck Delhi and the national capital region (NCR) late on Tuesday evening. The earthquake that lasted for a few seconds, was felt by most residents in the Delhi-NCR region.

The tremors were also felt in Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. There was no immediate report of any loss of life or property.

Delhi Earthquake News: Intensity, Epicentre, Timing

Regarding the intensity and epicentre of the earthquake, the National Centre for Seismology tweeted that the quake with a magnitude of 6.6 on the Richter Scale hit 133km south/south-east of Fayzabad, Afghanistan, at 10:17 pm IST on Tuesday.

Many took to Twitter to verify and share their experience of earthquake as well.

Delhi Earthquake: People step out of their homes in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad

PTI shared visuals of people rushing out of their homes in Delhi when the earthquake struck late on Tuesday evening.

Strong tremors were also felt in Noida, where people were seen running helter-skelter when the quake struck.

News agency ANI also tweeted visuals of people stepping out of their homes in Ghaziabad on to the streets immediately after the earthquake. 

Earthquake felt in Jammu and Kashmir

The tremors were felt as far up north as Srinagar in the Kashmir Valley. ANI also shared visuals of people rushing out of their homes in Srinagar after the quake jolted the city.

People in Jammu’s Katra also rushed out of their homes when the quake hit the area late on Tuesday. Those visiting he holy shrine of Vaishno Devi Temple in Reas district of Jammu.

However, no loss of life or major damage was reported from the temple city.

Tremors also felt in Pakistan

Agencies quoted Pakistan’s ARY News as reporting that the earthquake was felt in the neighbouring country’s Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar cities as well.
