Academic, Research and Teaching Talent Trends report summary 2021/22

As we emerge from pandemic restrictions, the competition for top academic, research and teaching talent grows stronger. Attracting the best talent remains a central focal point in each university. Strong growth in the Higher Education sector is proven by the sheer volume of opportunities advertised for this academic year, with an increase of 26,500 when compared to 2020/2021.

We posted 76,737 adverts during this period, of which 43% were academic, research and teaching positions, 52% were professional, managerial and support roles and 5% were Masters and PhD studentship opportunities.

Of the 33,011 academic opportunities advertised, 86% were offered on a full-time basis, and 52% were in the salary range of £30,000 – £39,000.

We formatted the report to replicate the Research Excellence Framework academic categories and found that Category A – consisting of Psychology, Agriculture Food and Veterinary, Biological Sciences and Health and Medical – was the most populated with 13,992 opportunities across the disciplines.
